Welcome to Cindy’s Critter Camp, Inc.!
Cindy’s Critter Camp prides itself on being a safe, clean, humane, and reasonably priced choice for your lodging, grooming, day camp, and training needs. The Critter Camp is locally owned, the owners live on-site and are present 7 days/week. Our staff is well trained, and strives to provide you and your pet with the best customer service every time you walk in the door.
All canine campers have private, individual indoor rooms for food, water, bedding and toys. This is connected with a pet door to an individual private outside area for exercise, potty and watching the other dogs and nature. All kitty campers stay in private, spacious individual enclosures for food, water, toys, scratch board, bedding, litter box and a pet taxi for privacy or to perch on.
Our groomer Tarah and our bather Kelli provide quality grooming and bathing for all breeds, sizes and ages, at a reasonable price!
Cindy’s Critter Camp is proud to have certified professional dog trainer/behavior specialist Lynsey. Lynsey will work with you and your dog to create a training program to address all of your dog’s training and behavioral needs.
Cindy’s Critter Camp is happy to offer our excellent Doggie Day Camp service. Imagine, your doggy coming home just as tired as you are after a long day. No longer is he home alone in a cage. No more accidents because she can not get outside in time. No more chewed pillows. No more mess when you come home! And no more feeling guilty.
For over 30 years, Cindy has been part of the pet rescue effort. At that time Labradors were very popular, and sadly, shelters were very full of homeless labs and lab mixes. Thus began her interest in trying to save as many labs as possible. November 2012, she incorporated a not for profit, Metro East Lab Rescue. However, since Cindy loves all pets, her rescue efforts have branched to an assorted mix of critters. Click Here to see how you can help our rescue effort.
About Cindy Kuschel
Cindy (Vuagniaux) Kuschel was born and grew up in Edwardsville, Illinois; an area she is still happy to call home. She received her Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Nursing from St. Louis University and spent twenty years working in the health care field as a registered nurse. At age twenty-five, she received her first pet: a Cocker Spaniel puppy she named Buffy Marie.
And little Buffy was the beginning of the new Cindy.
Cindy soon realized how very wonderful pets are and found herself devoting more and more of her time and her life to the care of cats and dogs. She helped start the Highland Animal Shelter and spent several years there as a board member and volunteer. When she returned to the Edwardsville area, she spent another 10 years on the board and volunteering for the Metro East Humane Society. From 1986-2014 she was the Labrador Retriever Rescue Representative for the Purebred Dog Rescue of St. Louis.
In November of 1994, Cindy made her devotion to pets a full time commitment. She gave up her nursing career and purchased the Watamug Boarding Kennel, which we now know as Cindy’s Critter Camp. Her goals at the kennel are simple enough: to provide a clean, safe, humane, reasonably priced and friendly atmosphere in which to take care of dogs and cats. Cindy loves what she does. Indeed, she feels truly blessed. She loves to provide excellent lodging, grooming, training services, and day camp, but the Critter Camp also allows Cindy and her staff to help people with their pet training problems and facilitate the rescue and adoption of homeless pets through Metroeast Labrador Retriever Rescue. This is Cindy’s Passion! She is proud to say that since 1994 she has facilitated the rescue, rehab and placement of more than 1,602 pets. Cindy’s hobbies are working at her business, exercising, reading, and spending time with the people and pets that are her friends and family.
